I’ve never heard of it, but I’ll definitely look it up!
Wow, this is so nice. Thank you
certainly!
Trust me when I say that I go through the same thing. Sometimes I get so mad at myself because I feel like everything I put down on paper is just a bunch of cliches piled on top of each other. In fact, one time it got so bad that I refused to write for a few months.
The best advice I can give you is just keep writing. Keep a journal with you wherever you go. If people pick it up and ask you what it is just tell them it’s a journal and if they give you that “Ohhh a diary” comment- ignore them. Keep it with you all the time, when you’re at school, when you’re at a restaurant, when you’re outside, and when you see something that interests you write it down. Describe it. Describe it in excruciating detail. Don’t worry about how it sounds, that comes later. Write every day, even if it’s only for two minutes. If you write whenever you get the chance, it’ll become habit, and once something become a habit it becomes more natural and before you know it you’ll be walking away from cliches and right into your own beautiful words.
What is your 365 project?
My 365 project is basically to write every day for a year. It’s a leap year, so with 366 days there will be 366 entries. Some short, some long, some messy, some far from perfect, but there will be 366 entries when it’s all said and done.
Do you use prompts?
Originally, yes. But I’ve stepped away from the prompts, though every now and again I’ll use them for inspiration. I use the prompts on coolbluesouls.com. If you want to take their 365 pledge click here.
What are you going to do with this blog once the year is over?
I have no idea! When I started this blog I had no idea it would grow as big as it has. When I first started out, it was just a place to store all of my entries. I’m not sure what’s going to happen next January. Maybe I’ll continue, or maybe I won’t. Only time will tell.
Do you use a typewriter? Where did you get it?
Yes, most of my entries are done with a typewriter. I received mine as a Christmas gift, but my sister bought it for me off of Etsy. My best advice for buying a typewriter from Etsy is do your research and understand what you’re looking for.
What does entry #__ mean?
For the most part I’m very open with my writing. If you have a question about a certain entry just drop it in my ask! I’ll be happy to talk to you about it.
Will you read my work?
If you think I’m that good, then I’m flattered and I would be honored to read your writing. I can’t promise that I’ll be able to do much with it, but if for some reason you want me to read something just send it to me in an ask, anon or not.
When will you update next?
I try to update as much as possible. My schedule can get pretty hectic at times, so here is my formal apology for any lapses in posting. I usually try to get the entries up as soon as possible though!
What ever happened with your letter writing project idea?
I’m still in the process of figuring that out. I’m not sure if I want to give you all my real address (no offense), but I’m also not sure how to go about getting a PO box. I still definitely want to do it though. I think it’s very important.
What are your favorite books?
Catcher in the Rye, The Great Gatsby, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Franny & Zooey, East of Eden, The Bell Jar, Huck Finn, A Moveable Feast, Sputnik Sweetheart, The History of Love, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, Slaughterhouse 5, The Fault in Our Stars, Hunger Games Trilogy, Harry Potter, Jane Eyre
141 is about how ridiculous I think the pressure is to be “pretty.” I go through every day and I walk past countless pretty faces, but what substance do they have? It’s about my frustration toward the people that think it’s okay to go through their life with being able to say they’ve never read a book. It’s about my frustration with society, and how sick it makes me that when we don’t know what else to do, we rip ourselves apart. It’s less about actually reading. It’s more about loving yourself.
Thank-you!! I’m so glad you like it, us teen writers have to stick together.
